The Christmas decorating fireplace ideas featured here utilize almost all natural materials in their decorating schemes. However, though the materials may be NATURAL, their uniquely creative use as holiday decor is anything BUT!
Warmed by a backdrop of mellow wood paneling, the stone fireplace mantel pictured above, right, is further softened by a pleasing arrangement of traditional holiday greenery. Complementing the cascading evergreen gar-
land is a profusion of pine cones and sprigs of holly with clusters of rich red berries. A tiny
topiary anchors each end of the mantel shelf.
Many of the
Christmas decorating fireplace ideas that follow include natu-
ral materials not traditionally used as, or commonly associated with holiday decor. As a result, some very fresh and exciting designs have been created -- even when using some of the most simple materials!
For example, fresh reddish orange pomegranates provide a striking con-
trast to the evergreen boughs and
mini pine
trees on the mantel at left. Tucked into the evergreens are sprigs of tiny red crystals that echo the col-
or of the
pomegranates.
The striking holiday mantel decor pictured below also uses simple -- and inexpensive -- natural materials. Though not commonly seen today, the practice of decorating Christmas trees with fruit goes back to the Middle Ages.
In this striking example, crisp green apples contrast beautifully with a garland of evergreen boughs. Pine cones add texture and color.
Each of the Christmas decorating fireplace ideas in the two images that follow employs a unique approach to holiday
mantel decor. With white mantels as a backdrop, the red and green decorations provide a nice con-
trast.
Pictured below, left, is a relatively simple decorating scheme comprised of small vases of red and white amaryllis and
peppermint candy canes. Hang-
ing from the mantel shelf is a garland of fluffy white pom-poms.
A more elaborate design is pictured below, right. Swags of Bells of Ireland hang from the mantel shelf, held in place by greenish-gold bows. Resting on the mantel is a collection of white pottery filled with red and green Christmas tree ornaments. Crowning it all are three stunning wreaths made of fresh crimson red carnations!
In the design that follows, pairs of topiaries in clay pots anchor each end of the mantel shelf. Centered on the wall above the mantel is a large wreath of mixed greens with a checkered bow.
Natural linen stockings hang from the mantel. Tying the mostly green color scheme together is a garland of pleated ribbon just beneath the mantel shelf.
The Christmas hearth pictured at right features a mantel shelf lined with ev-
ergreen garlands and boughs. A gold-
framed
mirror rests on the back of the shelf. "Sprouting" up from the base of greenery is a collection of clear glass vases
and cylinders with floating cran-
berries and candles.
The Christmas decorating fireplace idea that follows is very simple . . . yet infused with country holiday charm. Mitten shapes cut from white felt are clipped with wooden clothespins to a piece of twine strung across the face of the mantel. Resting on the mantel shelf are pine cones and whitewashed clay pots filled with green moss to give it a little color and texture.
Pictured below is another relatively simple -- albeit elegant -- Christmas fireplace design. A lush layering of evergreen boughs lines the top of the mantel shelf, punctuated by silver and purple tree ornaments. Adding to the holiday decorating scheme are coordinating purple ribbons that crown the frames hanging above the mantel.
The unique but simple holiday hearth that follows features seven bunches of mistletoe that hang from swags of ribbon beneath the mantel shelf. Resting on each end of the mantel shelf, itself, is a miniature evergreen tree in a glazed ceramic pot. The holiday decor color scheme takes its cue from the watercolor painting above the mantel.
Pictured at right is a country fireplace that includes an antique garden gate in its holiday decorating scheme. Sprigs of evergreen line the mantel shelf, while a simple boxwood wreath hangs from a large red velvet bow which, in turn, is suspended from the top of the ornamental garden gate.
And finally, the Christmas decorating fireplace scheme that follows features a more elaborate mantel top display.
Amid boughs of evergreen lining the mantel shelf is a collection of pewter pitchers, vases and candle holders. Filling
the pitchers and vases are festive bouquets of fresh flowers in holi-
day colors.
